Guided kayak trips – lake or river


1. Our famous  ‘Tiki Tour’ – guided kayak (half day)

Our most popular half day kayaking activity. This is a fantastic introduction to kayaking, with an easy guided paddle exploring the beautiful Lake Wanaka coastline,  enjoying the outstanding scenery.

Loved by all new to kayaking, families and the chilled out characters amongst us.

  • 8-10kms of easy paddling
  • Optional 15minute peninsula or island walk available
  • Light snacks and refreshments provided
  • Operates in all weather conditions.

2. For those with more time –  ‘The Southern Explorer’ – (full day) 

Price: Adult $275 / Child (13 years below) $215

For those  keen to explore Lake Wanaka a little further, the Southern Explorer is the perfect choice!  This trip will have you paddling through some of the region’s most iconic, remote and beautiful landscapes towards the ‘gem’ of the lake ’ Mou Waho island.

Here you will enjoy a short walk exploring this protected island where the views are next to none, followed by our gourmet picnic lunch on the beach.

To top it off catch a scenic boat cruise back to Wanaka (kayaks on board) for a relaxing and well deserved afternoon.

With Mt Aspiring Park towering over the lake, this trip will definitely give you “something to write home about!”

  • 12-14 kms of easy paddling
  • Optional 30-60 minute walk up to the Mou Waho island look out

  • No experience required (reasonable fitness expected)


3.  An introduction to whitewater! ‘Kayak the Mighty Clutha’ – (half day) 

Price: $189 per person (minimum 2 people)

(The Clutha river flows out of Lake Wanaka, not far away at all!)

This is our half day river activity for those with an appetite for getting up close and personal with the famous Clutha river.  The fun unfolds as the river twists and turns, through playful rapids of the Upper Clutha set amongst the stunning Wanaka scenery.

Your guide will give you instructions on river safety and technique, as well as tips on river reading and directions on where to find the action and best play spots.

With a bit of practice you’ll soon be cruising down the river in style.  Be prepared to get a little wet and have a giggle.

  • Approximately 22 kms of grade 1-2 river kayaking
  • Light snacks and refreshments provided


4. Want more adventure? ‘The MacDaddy’ – 2 day/1 night overnight kayak tour 

It’s not everyday you get a chance to join a ‘good ole’ kiwi kayaking and camping trip, but here’s your chance! Come and play with the birds and the bugs and explore the more remote locations of Lake Wanaka.

Camp out on one of Lake Wanaka’s beautiful islands and of course the fun continues for a second day!  Explore stunning landscapes, witness NZ birdlife such as Grebes, Falcons and Weka’s and if the weather is kind, sleep under a stunning NZ sky and watch the Southern stars!

Our experienced guides will quickly have both novices and experienced feeling at ease on the water. Their depth of knowledge of local history will keep you entertained and the tasty food prepared on route will make this trip the highlight of your visit to Lake Wanaka!

Our overnight tours operate between November 15 – April 30. All trips are weather dependent. All camping equipment supplied.

  • Approximately 4 hours of kayaking per day (13km / day)
  • 30 minute island walk (day 1), 20 minute kayak portage (day 2)
  • No experience necessary, intermediate fitness required
  • Fully catered: lunch, dinner, breakfast, tea, water, coffee and snacks
